The Challenge
St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney had undergone multiple expansions over the past two decades, resulting in three separate BMS platforms (Siemens, Honeywell and TAC Vista) operating independently across the campus. The facilities team could not monitor or manage the entire campus from a single interface, and there was no automated compliance monitoring for the critical pressure relationships in operating theatres and isolation rooms as required by AS 1668.2. Any BMS fault in the theatre suite required immediate on-site attendance, even outside business hours.
Our Solution
Synchronous Building Automation deployed Niagara N4 as an integration layer across all three existing BMS platforms, using BACnet, Modbus and native protocol drivers to aggregate data into a unified campus management interface. For the operating theatre suite, we installed dedicated Distech Controls ECLYPSE controllers with high-accuracy differential pressure sensors to monitor and control the pressure cascades. Automated compliance logging records pressure differential data at one-minute intervals, with immediate SMS and email alerts if any room falls outside the required parameters. Remote access was configured securely to allow our team to provide 24/7 monitoring and first-response support.

Technologies Used
“The integration project gave our engineering team a unified view of the entire campus for the first time in years. The automated theatre pressure monitoring gives us confidence that we are meeting our compliance obligations around the clock.”
